Paul Holland has built a career at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, and venture capital. He has served as a general partner at Foundation Capital since 2001, investing in early-stage software, consumer, and related businesses. Across seven funds and more than 20 years of investing, Paul Holland has sponsored companies that went on to achieve more than $20 billion in market capitalization. He also served as president of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists from 2008 to 2010.

Paul Holland's career in technology began at SRI International, where he analyzed emerging technology trends and published research on developing industries, including the Korean automotive and semiconductor sectors. He later joined Pure Software, advancing through sales leadership roles before becoming head of its European, Middle Eastern, and African operations. He helped the company go public before its eventual acquisition by IBM for more than $1 billion.

At Kana Communications, Paul Holland was brought in by Benchmark Capital to establish and lead its global commercial business. He built a 300-person organization spanning 12 geographies and helped increase annual sales from $10,000 to more than $140 million.

Mr. Holland has contributed to CNBC for more than a decade. He also developed the play Walls: An American Story. In 2022, he and his wife, Linda Yates, made the largest cash gift in James Madison University's history. The university subsequently named Holland Yates Hall in their honor.
